Junior Analyst

Tempest Technologies is seeking qualified applicants at the level of Junior Analyst for challenging work in mathematical and statistical modeling, optimization and control. The successful applicant will participate in technical aspects of projects under the direction of an Analyst or more senior staff member.  Duties will include algorithm development, coding and testing for diverse projects, including image based tracking, adaptive and nonlinear control, and public health modeling. We seek self-motivated problem solvers with a strong desire to learn leading technologies, good teaming and collaboration skills, and the drive to help us push the envelope in several areas of research.

Responsibilities

  • Developing software for data processing and analysis;
  • Gaining a basic understanding of the overall project and a clear idea of how his/her tasks fit into the whole;
  • Teaming with analysts and engineers from within the company as well as client personnel to accomplish project goals; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience, Skill and Education

  • B.S. in mathematics, applied mathematics or statistics;
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with in-house, consulting, and client personnel;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Excellent programming skills (Matlab, C, and/or R a plus), proficiency with the Windows operating system and Microsoft Office tools; and
  • Due to export controlled data restrictions on government contract work, U.S. citizenship or permanent residence is required.

Senior Analyst

Tempest Technologies is seeking qualified applicants at the level of Senior Analyst for challenging work in software development for real-time estimation and control applications. The successful applicant will be responsible for leadership roles in algorithm development, coding and testing for diverse projects, including real-time embedded identification and control, unmanned air vehicle planning and control, and adaptive and nonlinear control. We seek self-motivated problem solvers with an interest in both hardware and software, a strong desire to learn leading technologies, good teaming and collaboration skills, and the drive to help us push the envelope in new control methods and applications.

Responsibilities

  • Participating in and leading proposal writing and new client development;
  • Participating in and leading algorithm development for simulation, estimation, and control in a variety of application domains;
  • Continuing to acquire knowledge of new hardware, software, and problem-solving technologies; and
  • Teaming with analysts and engineers from within the company as well as client personnel to accomplish project goals.

Experience, Skill and Education

  • Ph.D. in applied mathematics or electrical engineering with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience within the area of stated responsibilities;
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with in-house, consulting, and client personnel;
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • A high degree of proficiency with Matlab, the Windows operating system and Microsoft Office tools; and
  • Due to export controlled data restrictions on government contract work, U.S. citizenship or permanent residence is required.

Health Research Analyst

Tempest Technologies is seeking qualified applicants in the general areas of epidemiology and public health. We are especially interested in applicants with a strong quantitative background who will participate in expanding our business. Current projects are focused on analyzing college drinking and other substance use and abuse problems using agent-based modeling coupled with survey and other data. We would like to grow our portfolio of projects in public health and expand into other areas of social and business science.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate in the development of statistical and computational models for public health applications;
  • Communicate results through written reports, presentations and peer-reviewed publications; and
  • Participate in identifying new business areas and clients.

Experience, Skill and Education

  • Ph.D. or advanced degree with minimum of two years of relevant experience in epidemiology, public health, the social sciences, or statistics;
  • Experience in quantitative analysis of survey and other public health data;
  • Desire to learn and apply new quantitative techniques; and
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Additional Desirable Qualifications

  • Statistical programming experience with R, SAS, Stata, or Matlab;
  • Experience with mathematical and computational models;
  • Some experience beyond the degree in quantitative analysis of public health problems; and
  • Strong desire to learn new approaches and expand into new areas of work.
